Biography:

Safe Mode, in computer speak, is a special way for Windows to load when your PC is experiencing system critical problems. When in Safe Mode many of the most basic drivers are bypassed, allowing one to check what is causing Windows not to function correctly.

A while back I was a musical mess. I was making electronic pop for TV, working on an African mood-music album, playing in a folk band and making hip-hop beats for local emcees. At night my eardrums were either being pelted by generic SA rock, or resonating to deep-house kick drums.

The music one listens to forms a part of one’s identity. My musical schizophrenia was part of a larger feeling of detachment and cultural alienation. I felt that I really needed to go back to the basics, reboot my system and try and organize all the images and sounds that form my consciousness so that they made some kind of chronological sense.
