Biography:

Lark

Lark has been writing music since April 2004 and have been described as “glitch opera”, “classical electronica”, “new age trip hop” and “alternative electro”.

Their recent trip to Germany gave them the opportunity of playing with Germany’s biggest Hip Hop and Rnb artist Xavier Naidoo. He came to SA to shoot his video and got hold of the EP and two weeks later his label called and invited them over to do a show. They played with numerous international acts including Scratch from “The Roots” and Germany’s 13 piece Hip Hop band “The Sons of Mannheim”.

“Lark is an awe-inspiring fusion of digital and analogue expression realized through the raw beauty of the female human voice and the endless possibilities of technology “. (Rage)

They were asked to participate in 2005’s Oppikoppi music festival which was a great success and secured their place in the SA music scene.

“Lark’s music really makes sense to me, Inge has an amazing voice and she is so beautiful. The fact they’re doing something original and new really turns me on! “. (Lee Thompson - Hog Hoggidy Hog, Springbok Nude Girls)

“Inge’s abilities as a performer and a singer have set standards that only very, few could match. Her singing super-powers combined with the one man electro-symphony, Humanizer, has resulted in something that can only justifiably be described as pure audio alchemy. LARK has found a perfect medium between left field electro and mainstream trip hop; creating a genre of music that can be appreciated by all.” (Sub_Urban)

In their short time together they have released an EP, worked with the best of local talents, appeared on MTV, produced the title track to a television series, performed in Europe and Oppikoppi.

Inge Beckman

Inge is a trained singer in opera, classics and dance and has been exercising her talents since an early age. Her first public performances began in the Jazz scene, gigging in Stellenbosch clubs with local Jazz musos and at various venues throughout Cape Town. Her subsequent collaboration with the 9-piece band, The Spindle Sect, put her on the map.

Inge has also starred in numerous music videos for artists from Germany, Russia and South Africa. She has been featured in commercial film productions flighted both locally and internationally.

A prolific song-writer, Inge began looking for an alternate outlet for her music; something more personal and unconstrained. One summer evening in 2004, whilst at the Suburban garden party, Inge heard Humanizer’s music for the first time; she instantly knew that she had found the producer she had been looking for. One month later LARK was alive…

Paul Ressel

Paul’s musical history is heavily steeped in rock music. Having played in numerous bands since the age of 11, he has mastered guitar, bass guitar, piano, percussion and drums. The cross-over into the electronic realm stemmed from an instinctive ability to build entire compositions from scratch.

While studying design, he discovered the electronically produced music of Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher and many other artists in the WARP Records stable. When Radiohead, a major alternative rock influence, released ‘KID A,’ Paul began to experiment in previously unknown genres, curious to see where his rock origins could take him in the new and mostly unknown world of electronic music. Paul played his first gig as his mad scientist/musician alter ego, Humanizer, at the age of 21.

Within months Humanizer had released tracks with Unit-R on 2 compilations distributed internationally. He has also released music with renowned electronica label Timecode Records. His co-production work on Cofield Mundi’s debut album ‘Ceremony’ resulted in the honor of being nominated for a SAMA. Having worked with numerous vocalists and musicians, Humanizer felt he had yet to find his ubér-songbird until his first studio session with Inge.
